FAQ
When do you run the shark dives?
Every Sunday morning, except the first Sunday in each month. Check our calendar page for available spaces.
What time do you meet?
We usually meet divers at 9am so we have chance to bring in and set up the kit and deliver a safety briefing before the centre is fully open. We ask any paying guests to wait until the centre is fully open at 10am before coming in. We are not normally in the water before 10am so no-one will miss anything! The early start also makes it more likely that we'll all find parking spaces near the centre.
What qualification do I need?
You'll need to have an open-water diving qualification plus a number of experience dives (minimum 10 dives). The PADI Advanced Open water
diver qualification or equivalent also meets this requirement. We'll ask to see evidence of your diving experience so bring your log book but by all means contact us to discuss things
if you dont yet have this experience. Minimum age for the dive is 16 years.
How much will it cost?
£120 per diver. (Group discounts also apply - see below). This entitles you and one friend free access to the centre. Other guests and visitors will need to pay, as normal, once the sealife centre opens to the public at 10am.
Where does the money go?
The majority of your money will go toward external charity projects. The TAMAR
project has been a beneficiary of Brighton Sealife centre events for many years. From 2009, The Shark Trust will also benefit from your dive, in line with the shark theme! The Shark Trust do sterling work promoting the conservation and protection of these beautiful creatures, many of which remain on the endangered species list. Remaining funds help toward
the upkeep and maintenance of the ocean tank as well as various other diving based welfare projects and conservation efforts around the centre. We also support Merlin's Magic Wand - a charity dedicated to providing magical experiences for seriously ill, disabled or disadvantaged children.
Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely. You can bring as many friends and family as you like. Each diver is entitled to bring one friend (gear carrier) free of charge thanks to a special arrangement with the Sealife Centre. Further guests are welcome although normal Sealife Centre entry requirements and charges will apply. Check the Sealife Centre website
for current opening times and charges.
Can I bring a camera?
Of course! You can use a normal camera within the sealife centre. If you have an underwater camera, you can bring that too. All we ask is that the flash is not used whilst you're in the water since the electrical discharge and the flash itself could disturb the animals who are used to somewhat dimmed light conditions.
Can you cater for groups
Certainly! We limit the number of divers per day to four in line with the guidelines suggested by the curator at the Sealife Centre. The health and happiness of the animals in the tank is very important to us so we work closely with the centre staff to ensure the animals are not adversely affected by us being in the water.
Is there a discount for groups?
Yes!! We are currently offering discounts to anyone reserving space for more than one diver, based on the size of the group. In each case, the charity donation made by each diver remains the same and our ability to support other welfare projects throughout the centre remains unaltered.
Groups of 4 pay £80 each.
Groups of 3 pay £90 each.
Groups of 2 pay £100 each.
Remember that each diver is entitled to bring one guest free of charge, worth up to £14.50
